গোপালগঞ্জের শেখ হাসান ও শাহনাজ বেগম দম্পতির প্রথম সন্তান শেখ জিল্লুর রহমান। স্বপ্ন ছিল ছেলেকে 'বড় অফিসার' বানাবেন, সেজন্যই গ্রাম ছেড়ে ঢাকায় আসেন তারা। কিন্তু কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলন ঘিরে চলা সহিংসতার মধ্যে ঢাকার বাড্ডায় গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে জিল্লুর নিহত হওয়ায় তাদের সে স্বপ্ন কেবল স্বপ্নই রয়ে গেল। শেখ হাসানের বাড়ি গোপালগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলা কাঠি ইউনিয়নের কাঠি পশ্চিমপাড়া গ্রামে। ভাই নূর আলম শেখের সঙ্গে ঢাকার মেরুল বাড্ডায় তার মাছের আড়ৎ রয়েছে। বাড্ডার আফতাব নগরেই পরিবার নিয়ে থাকেন তিনি। চার সন্তানের মধ্যে বড় ছেলে জিল্লুর একাদশ শ্রেণির ছাত্র, মেঝ ছেলে দশম শ্রেণিতে, ছোট ছেলে তৃতীয় শ্রেণিতে আর সবার ছোট মেয়েটির বয়স দুই বছর। জিল্লুর বনশ্রীর ফয়জুর রহমান আইডিয়াল স্কুল থেকে বিজ্ঞান বিভাগে জিপিএ ৪.৯৬ পেয়ে সম্প্রতি আফতাব নগরের ইম্পেরিয়াল কলেজের একাদশ শ্রেণিতে ভর্তি হয়েছিল। শেখ হাসান বলেন, “আমার ছেলেটা সারাদিন পড়াশোনা নিয়েই থাকত। সেদিন দুপুরে নামাজ পড়ার জন্য বাসা থেকে বের হয়েছিল। কিন্তু ফিরল লাশ হয়ে। কি অপরাধ ছিল তার?” পড়াশোনায় বেশ ভালো হওয়ায় জিল্লুরকে ঘিরে তার বাবা-মায়ের অনেক আশা ছিল বলে জানান জিল্লুরের ফুফা ইমদাদুল মোল্লা (৪০)। তিনি বলেন, “জিল্লুরের বাবা-মায়ের স্বপ্ন ছিল ছেলেকে লেখাপড়া শিখিয়ে বড় অফিসার বানাবেন। সন্তানদের ভালো পড়াশোনা নিশ্চিত করতেই তারা গ্রাম ছেড়ে ঢাকায় গিয়ে কষ্ট করে চলছিলেন। কিন্তু একটি গুলি তাদের সব স্বপ্ন-আশা ধূলিসাৎ করে দিয়েছে।”

Sheikh Jilur Rahman is the first child of Sheikh Hasan and Shahinaz Begum of Gopalganj. They had a dream of making their son a 'big officer', that's why they came to Dhaka leaving the village. However, their dream remained just a dream as Jilur was shot dead in the violence surrounding the quota reform movement in Dhaka's Badda. Sheikh Hasan's house is in Kati West Para village of Kati Union in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. He has a fish wholesale shop in Merul Badda, Dhaka, with his brother Nur Alam Sheikh, and lives with his family in Aftabnagar, Badda. Among their four children, the eldest son Jilur was a student of class XI, the middle son is in class X, the youngest son is in class III, and the youngest daughter is two years old. Jilur recently got admitted to class XI in Imperial College, Aftabnagar, after passing class X from Faizur Rahman Ideal School in Banoshree with a GPA of 4.96 in the science department. Sheikh Hasan said, “My son used to study all day. He went out of the house to say his prayers that day. But he came back dead. What was his crime?" According to Jilur's uncle, Imdadul Molla, Jilur's parents had high hopes for him because he was a good student. He said, “Jilur's parents had a dream of making their son a big officer by educating him. They left the village and came to Dhaka to ensure their children get a good education. But a single bullet has shattered all their dreams and aspirations.”
