সংসারের টানাপোড়েনের মধ্যেও মো. ইরফান ভূঁইয়া বাবাকে বলতেন, পড়ালেখা শেষ করে নিজের হাতে পরিবারের জন্য একটা বাড়ি বানাবেন। বাবার ছোট্ট জমিতে ব্যাংক লোন নিয়ে বাড়ি বানানোর স্বপ্ন দেখতেন তিনি। সেই স্বপ্ন অপূর্ণ রেখে রাজধানীর যাত্রাবাড়ীর কাজলা টোল প্লাজার কাছে ২০২৪ সালের ১৮ জুলাই বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে শহীদ হন মেধাবী ছাত্র মো. ইরফান ভূঁইয়া। তার শোকার্ত বাবা আমিনুল ইসলাম ভূঁইয়া বলেন, ‘সিদ্ধিরগঞ্জের নিমাই কাশারী বাজার এলাকায় আমাদের একটি ছোট জমি রয়েছে। কিন্তু বাড়ি বানানোর সামর্থ্য হয়নি। আমার ছেলে বলত, পড়ালেখা শেষ করে ব্যাংক লোন নিয়ে বাড়ি বানাবে। কিন্তু সব স্বপ্ন এখন শেষ।’ তেইশ বছর বয়সী ইরফান ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটির (ইউআইইউ) অনার্স দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী ছিলেন। সেই সময় বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের ব্যানারে চলা আন্দোলন দমন করতে সরকারের দমন-পীড়নের মাঝেই গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে তিনি শহীদ হন ইরফান। এ আন্দোলন দ্রুত গণঅভ্যুত্থানে রূপ নেয়। এর মধ্য দিয়েই ২০২৪ সালের ৫ আগস্ট প্রায় ১৬ বছরের স্বৈরশাসনের পতন ঘটে। ইরফানের বাবা মো. আমিনুল ইসলাম ভূঁইয়া একই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে (ইউআইইউ) সিনিয়র এক্সিকিউটিভ (টেকনিক্যাল) পদে কর্মরত। এখন এক অসহনীয় অপরাধবোধে ভুগছেন তিনি। তার মনে হয়, অজান্তে তিনি তার ছেলেকে মৃত্যুর মুখে ঠেলে দিয়েছেন। মর্মান্তিক ঘটনায় শোকে ভেঙে পড়া ইরফানের বাবা কান্নাভেজা কণ্ঠে বলেন, ‘আমি নিজেকেই দায়ী মনে করি। আমি নিজেই ওকে আন্দোলনে যাওয়ার জন্য গাড়ি ভাড়ার টাকা দিয়েছিলা। ভাবতেই পারিনি সেটাই হবে ওর জীবনের শেষ দিন।’ ১৮ জুলাই সকালে নারায়ণগঞ্জের সিদ্ধিরগঞ্জের নিমাই কাশারী এলাকায় নিজ বাসায় ছিলেন ইরফান। সকাল থেকে আমাশয়ে ভুগছিলেন। কিন্তু বন্ধুদের বারবার ফোন পেয়ে আন্দোলনে যোগ দিতে যান। ‘সকাল থেকেই ইরফানের পেট খারাপ ছিল। কিন্তু তার কিছু বন্ধু তাকে বাড্ডায় যেতে বলছিল, আর কিছু বিশেষ করে মঈনুল হক বারবার যাত্রাবাড়ীতে যেতে বলছিল,’ বলেন শোকার্ত আমিনুল। মা দুপুর পর্যন্ত তাকে বাসায় আটকে রেখেছিলেন। কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত জোহরের নামাজের সময় নাশতা না করেই বেরিয়ে পড়েন ইরফান। আন্দোলনে যোগ দিতে সরাসরি চলে যান যাত্রাবাড়ীর শনির আখড়ায়। ‘ইরফান আন্দোলনে যাওয়ার ব্যাপারে একরোখা মনোভাব দেখালে আমি ওর মাকে বলি, ওকে ১০০ টাকা দিয়ে দিতে যেন যাতায়াত করতে পারে। ‘কখনো ভাবিনি এটাই হবে ওর সঙ্গে আমার শেষ দেখা,’ কাঁদতে কাঁদতে বলেন আমিনুল। ‘এখন মনে হয়, ওই টাকা দিয়েই আমি ছেলেকে মৃত্যুর দিকে ঠেলে দিয়েছি,’ আফসোস করে বলেন তিনি। আমিনুল জানান, তিনি জানতেন না যে সেদিন রাস্তায় পরিস্থিতি এতটাই ভয়াবহ ছিল। আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর সদস্যরা নির্বিচারে আন্দোলনকারীদের লক্ষ্য করে গুলি চালাচ্ছিল। তিনি স্মরণ করেন, ইউআইইউ-র ছাত্র ইরফানের বন্ধু পিয়ালই প্রথম তাকে দুঃসংবাদটি জানান। তিনি ক্তখন আসরের নামাজ পড়ে মসজিদ থেকে বের হয়েছেন। ‘আংকেল, আপনাকে দ্রুত যাত্রাবাড়ী যেতে হবে। ইরফান গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়েছে, হাসপাতালে আছে,’ জানান পিয়াল। একটি গুলি ইরফানের পিঠে ঢুকে বাম দিক দিয়ে শরীরের ভেতরে আটকে যায়। হতভাগ্য বাবা ছুটে যান যাত্রাবাড়ীতে। জানতে পারেন, শনির আখড়ার সালমান হাসপাতালসহ একাধিক হাসপাতাল তাকে ভর্তি নিতে অস্বীকৃতি জানায়। পরে সদরঘাটের জাতীয় মেডিকেল ইনস্টিটিউটে নেওয়া হয়। কিন্তু আমিনুল সেখানে পৌঁছার আগেই সব শেষ হয়ে যায়। ‘সেখানে গিয়ে আমি ছেলের নিথর দেহ পড়ে থাকতে দেখি। পরে হাসপাতাল থেকে ডেথ সার্টিফিকেটসহ তার মরদেহ বুঝে নিই,’ বলেন ইরফানের শোকার্ত বাবা। পরে ইরফানের মরদেহ নিয়ে যাওয়া হয় নরসিংদী সদর উপজেলার তাদের গ্রামের বাড়িতে। ১৯ জুলাই সকালে পারিবারিক কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হয়। পরিবারের অজান্তেই ইরফান বেশ কিছুদিন ধরে গোপনে আন্দোলনে সক্রিয় ছিলেন। পরে জানা যায়, পরিবারের সদস্যরা যাতে দুশিচন্তা না করেন সেজন্য তিনি তাদেও সামনে আন্দোলনের বিরোধিতার ভান করতেন। ‘ইরফান আমাদের সামনে বৈষম্যবিরোধী আন্দোলনের সমালোচনা করত। কিন্তু পরে বুঝতে পারি, এটা ছিল আমাদের চিন্তায় না ফেলার একটা কৌশল,’ বলেন কান্নাজড়িত কণ্ঠে আমিনুল। শুধু ভালো ছাত্র নয়, ইরফান ছিল স্বপ্নবাজও। ছোটবেলায় ডাক্তার হওয়ার স্বপ্ন দেখতেন তিনি। পরে বাস্তবতার কারণে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তিতে ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ার স্বপ্ন নিয়ে কম্পিউটার সায়েন্স নিয়ে পড়াশোনা শুরু করেন। ইরফান আরও চেয়েছিল তার দুই ছোট বোন বুশরা ও সায়মা আক্তার, যারা এবার এইচএসসি পাস করেছে, তাদের ডাক্তার বানাবে। জুলাই শহীদ স্মৃতি ফাউন্ডেশন থেকে পাওয়া আর্থিক সহায়তা প্রসঙ্গে আমিনুল বলেন, তারা ৫ লাখ টাকা পেয়েছেন। তবে তারা সে টাকা স্থানীয় একটি মসজিদে দান করে দিয়েছেন। ‘আমার ছেলের স্বপ্ন ছিল একটা ল্যাপটপ আর মোটরসাইকেল কেনার। কিন্তু কখনোই ওর সেই স্বপ্ন পূরণ করতে পারিনি। তাই আমরা ঠিক করেছি, ওর স্বপ্ন পূরণ করতে না পারার এই অর্থ আমরা ছোঁব না,’ বাষ্পরুদ্ধ কণ্ঠে বলেন আমিনুল। আমিনুল জানান, ইরফানের মৃত্যুর জন্য তিনি তৎকালীন সরকারের শীর্ষ কর্মকর্তাদের বিরুদ্ধে যাত্রাবাড়ী থানায় একটি মামলা দায়ের করেছেন। তবে পরিবারটির শোকের ভার আর কখনোই কমেনি। ‘আমার স্ত্রী মোসলেমা (৪৩) গৃহিণী, সারাক্ষণ ছেলের ছবি বুকে জড়িয়ে ধরে কাঁদে। আমাকে দোষ দেয়, কেনো ওকে আটকে রাখতে পারিনি,’ বলেন আমিনুল। ইরফানকে হারানোর এই যন্ত্রণা ভাষায় প্রকাশ করা যাবে না। তার স্বপ্নগুলো অপূর্ণ থেকে গেছে। বিধ্বস্ত হয়ে পড়েছে পরিবার। আর তার বাবার হৃদয়ে থেকে গেছে এক অনন্ত আক্ষেপ: সেদিন যদি ওকে আটকে রাখতে পারতাম, তাহলে ওকে হয়ত হারাতে হতে না।

Even in the midst of life's struggles, Mohammad Irfan Bhuiyan would tell his father, "After completing my studies, I will build a house for the family with my own hands." His father had a small piece of land in Siddhirganj, where he dreamed of building a house by taking a bank loan. That dream remained unfulfilled as Irfan, a meritorious student, was shot and martyred during an anti-discrimination student movement near Kazla Toll Plaza in Jatrabari on July 18, 2024. Irfan's grief-stricken father, Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, said, "We have a small piece of land in the Nimai Kashari area of Siddhirganj, but we didn't have the means to build a house. My son would say, 'After completing my studies, I will take a bank loan and build a house.' But now all those dreams are over." Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, a senior executive (technical) at the United International University (UIU), is now suffering from unbearable guilt. He feels that he has inadvertently pushed his son towards death. Twenty-three-year-old Irfan was a second-year honors student at UIU. At the time, the government was trying to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement, and Irfan was shot during the clashes. Irfan's father had given him 100 taka for transportation to attend the protest, unaware that it would be their last meeting. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan now regrets giving his son the money, feeling that it led to his death. On the day of the incident, Irfan was at home in the Nimai Kashari area of Siddhirganj, suffering from diarrhea. However, he received repeated calls from his friends to join the protest, and eventually, he left home without having lunch. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan said, "I didn't know that the situation on the road was so dire. The law enforcement agencies were firing indiscriminately at the protesters." Irfan was shot in the back, and the bullet got stuck inside his body. He was taken to several hospitals, but none of them agreed to admit him. Eventually, he was taken to the National Medical Institute in Sadarghat, where he was pronounced dead. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan saw his son's lifeless body at the hospital and later received the death certificate. Irfan's body was then taken to their village home in Narsingdi, where he was buried on July 19. The family was unaware that Irfan had been secretly participating in the protest movement for some time. He had even criticized the movement in front of his family to avoid worrying them. Irfan was not only a good student but also a dreamer. He had initially wanted to become a doctor but later decided to pursue a career in computer science. He also wanted to make his two younger sisters, Bushra and Sayma, doctors. The family received 500,000 taka in financial assistance from the July Martyr Memorial Foundation, but they donated the money to a local mosque. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan has filed a case against the top officials of the former government at the Jatrabari police station over Irfan's death. However, the family's grief has not subsided. Irfan's mother, Moslema, is a homemaker and spends her days crying, holding her son's photo and blaming her husband for not being able to stop Irfan from attending the protest. The pain of losing Irfan is indescribable. His dreams remain unfulfilled, and his family is devastated. His father is left with a lasting regret: if only he could have stopped Irfan from attending the protest that day, maybe he would still be alive.
