কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের সহিংসতায় রাজধানীর বনশ্রীতে ভাড়া বাসার সামনে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে মারা যান কুষ্টিয়া পলিটেকনিক্যাল কলেজের শেষবর্ষের ছাত্র মারুফ হোসেন (২১)। ২০ দিন আগে ইন্টার্নি করতে ঢাকায় আসা মারুফ বন্ধুদের সাথে বনশ্রীতে একটি ভাড়া বাসায় থাকছিলেন। ১৯ জুলাই দুপুরে বাসার সামনে গুলিবিদ্ধ হন মারুফ। আহত অবস্থায় স্থানীয় একটি হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হলে চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। ২০ জুলাই সকালে ময়নাতদন্ত ছাড়াই কুষ্টিয়ার খোকসা কেন্দ্রীয় পৌর ঈদগাহে জানাজা শেষে পৌর কবরস্থানে তাকে দাফন করা হয়। ছেলেকে হারিয়ে মা-বাবার কান্না থামছে না। মারুফের মৃত্যুতে এলাকায় শোকের ছায়া নেমে এসেছে। ছাত্র আন্দোলনের সহিংসতায় গুলিতে নিহত মারুফ হোসেন কুষ্টিয়ার খোকসা পৌর এলাকার থানা পাড়ার শরিফ উদ্দিনের একমাত্র ছেলে। তিনি কুষ্টিয়া পলিটেকনিক্যাল ইনস্টিটিউটের কম্পিউটার বিভাগের ছাত্র ছিলেন। মারুফের বাবা শরিফ উদ্দিন বলেন, ১৯ তারিখ সকাল ১১টার দিকে ছেলের সাথে শেষবার কথা হয়েছিল। তখনও তাদের মেসে খাবার হয়নি। কথা শেষ হওয়ার আগেই লাইন কেটে যায়। বিকেল ৫টার পর ছেলের সহপাঠি নবী ফোন দিয়ে মারুফের মৃত্যুর খবর জানায়। তিনি আরও বলেন, কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনের সহিংসতায় বনশ্রীতে ভাড়া বাসার সামনে গুলিতে ছেলের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। ছেলের পিঠে দুটি গুলি লেগেছে। এই নির্মম হত্যাকাণ্ডের বিচার চাই। অনেক কষ্ট করে ছেলেকে লেখাপড়া করিয়েছিলাম। ছেলেকে নিয়ে অনেক স্বপ্ন ছিল। আমার সব স্বপ্ন ভেঙে চুরমার হয়ে গেছে। মারুফের বোন চতুর্থ শ্রেণীর ছাত্রী মাইসা বলেন, সন্ধ্যার পরপরই মাকে ফোন করতো ভাই। আমার সাথেও কথা বলতো। চাকরি পেলেই পছন্দের অনেক খেলনা কিনে দেওয়ার কথা দিয়েছিল। কিন্তু ভাই আর নেই। সন্ধ্যা নামলেই ভাইয়ের ফোনের অপেক্ষায় থাকি। ভাইয়ের কথাগুলো সবসময় কানে বাজে। মারুফের মা ময়না খাতুন ছেলের মৃত্যুর সংবাদ পেয়ে চিৎকার করে কেঁদে উঠেছিলেন। এরপর থেকে শোকে পাথর হয়ে গেছেন। কারো কোন প্রশ্নের জবাব দেন না। কেউ কথা বললে শুধু তাকিয়ে থাকেন। এখনও ছেলের ঘরে স্মৃতি হাতড়ে ফেরেন তিনি। ছেলের ঘরে তালা দিয়ে চাবিটা নিজের কাছে রেখেছেন। ইচ্ছে হলে ওই রুমে গিয়ে টেবিলের পাশে চুপচাপ দাঁড়িয়ে থাকেন। ছেলের ব্যবহারের বাইসাইকেলটি নেড়েচেড়ে দেখেন। মায়ের সাথে ভাইয়ের হাতের স্পর্শ খুঁজে পেতে চেষ্টা করে ছোট বোন মাইসাও। মারুফের বাড়িতে গিয়ে দেখা যায়, দুই কক্ষের টিনের ঘরের বারান্দায় মা ময়না খাতুনকে ঘিরে প্রতিবেশী নারীরা বসে আছেন। ছেলেকে হারানোর শোকে কাঁদছেন মা ও বোন। তাদের পাশে প্রতিবেশী ও স্বজনরা বসে আছেন। মারুফের মৃত্যুতে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছেন পরিবারের সদস্যরা। সান্ত্বনা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেও স্বজন ও স্থানীয়রা ব্যর্থ হচ্ছেন। তারাও কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়ছেন। খোকসা থানার ওসি আননূর জায়েদ জানান, কোনো অভিযোগ না থাকায় ময়নাতদন্ত ছাড়াই লাশ দাফন সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। এলাকায় অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত পরিস্থিতি এড়াতে পুলিশ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছিল।

কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলন চলাকালে ঢাকার রামপুরায় বিজিবির গুলিতে নিহত হন শিক্ষার্থী মারুফ হোসেন। তার পিঠ দিয়ে গুলি ঢুকে পেট দিয়ে বের হয়ে গেছে।

Maruf, who came to Dhaka 20 days ago to do an internship, was living with his friends in a rented house in Banasree. Maruf was shot in front of his house on July 19 at 2 pm. He was taken to a local hospital where the doctor declared him dead. On July 20, his body was buried at the municipal graveyard in Kushtia's Khoksa after his namaz-e-janaza without an autopsy. Maruf's mother and father are inconsolable after losing their son. Maruf's death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. Maruf Hossain, who was killed in the violence of the student movement, was the only son of Sharif Uddin of Thana Para in Kushtia's Khoksa municipal area. He was a student of the computer department at Kushtia Polytechnic Institute. Maruf's father, Sharif Uddin, said that he had spoken to his son for the last time on July 19 at 11 am. At that time, they had not had their meal at the mess. The line was cut off before the conversation ended. In the afternoon, after 5 pm, Maruf's classmate Nabi called and informed him of Maruf's death. He also said that his son was killed in a shooting in front of a rented house in Banasree due to the violence of the quota reform movement. Two bullets hit his son's back. He demanded justice for this heinous murder. He had studied with great difficulty and had many dreams about his son. All his dreams have been shattered. Maruf's sister, Maiza, a fourth-grade student, said that her brother used to call their mother after evening. He also used to talk to her. He had promised to buy her many toys of her choice after getting a job. But brother is no more. After evening, she waits for her brother's call. Her brother's words always echo in her ears. Maruf's mother, Moyena Khatoon, became hysterical and wept after hearing the news of her son's death. Since then, she has become stone-like in grief. She does not answer anyone's questions. If someone talks to her, she just stares. She still visits her son's room in search of memories. She has locked the room and kept the key with her. If she wants, she goes to the room and stands silently beside the table. She looks at the bicycle her son used to ride. Her younger daughter, Maiza, also tries to find her brother's touch with her mother. When visiting Maruf's house, it is seen that the mother, Moyena Khatoon, is sitting on the veranda of the two-room tin house surrounded by local women. The mother and daughter are crying after losing their son. The relatives and locals are sitting beside them. The family members have fallen ill due to Maruf's death. Even after trying to console them, the relatives and locals are failing. They are also breaking down in tears. The OC of Khoksa police station, Anwar Javed, said that the body was buried without an autopsy as there was no complaint. Police were deployed in the area to avoid any unwanted situation.
Cause
During the quota reform movement, student Maruf Hossain was killed by BGB firing in Rampura, Dhaka. The bullet entered through his back and came out through his stomach.
