মা, অনবরত গুলি হচ্ছে। পরে কথা বলব।’ কিন্তু সেই ‘পরে’ আর আসেনি রায়পুরের বাসিন্দা স্যানিটারি মিস্ত্রি ফয়েজ আহমেদ (৩১)-এর জীবনে। ২০২৪ সালের ২১ জুলাই সন্ধ্যার আগে ছেলের খোঁজ নিতে ফোন করেন মা সবুরা বেগম। মায়ের ফোন পেয়ে ফয়েজ মাকে জানান, তিনি ভালো আছেন এবং কাজ শেষে বাসায় ফিরছেন। প্রচণ্ড গোলাগুলি হচ্ছে বলে জানান তিনি। মাকে আশ্বস্ত করে বলেন, ‘বাসায় গিয়ে পরে কথা বলব।’ কিন্তু আর ফেরা হয়নি ফয়েজের। লক্ষ্মীপুরের রায়পুর উপজেলার উত্তর চর আবাবিল ইউনিয়নের ঝাউডগী এলাকায় শহীদ ফয়েজ আহমেদের বাড়িতে গিয়ে দেখা যায়, শোকে স্তব্ধ পরিবারের সদস্যরা। তিন সন্তানের মধ্যে ফয়েজ আহমেদ ছিলেন সবার বড়। সংসারের একমাত্র উপার্জনক্ষম ব্যক্তি ছিলেন তিনি। শহীদ ফয়েজ আহমেদের মা সবুরা বেগম সন্তানের জন্য হাউমাউ করে কাঁদছেন। এখন কে দেখবে তাদের? কে দেবে সান্ত্বনা? ছেলের সঙ্গে শেষ ফোনালাপ এবং অতীতের স্মৃতি তুলে ধরে বিলাপ করছেন বৃদ্ধা সবুরা বেগম। অন্যদিকে, ছেলেকে হারিয়ে স্তব্ধ হয়ে গেছেন বৃদ্ধ আলাউদ্দিন। সবুরা বেগম বলেন, ‘২১ জুলাই সন্ধ্যা ৬টার দিকে ছেলের সঙ্গে কথা বলার সময় মোবাইলে প্রচণ্ড গোলাগুলির শব্দ শুনি। এর কিছুক্ষণ পর বিকট গুলির শব্দ আসে এবং তারপর ছেলের সঙ্গে সংযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যায়। এরপর থেকে আমার চারপাশ অন্ধকার হয়ে গেছে। এখন কী হবে? কে দেখবে ফয়েজের স্ত্রী ও শিশু সন্তানকে?’ এসব ভাবতে ভাবতে চোখের জল ফেলতে থাকেন তিনি। প্রায় ১২ বছর আগে সংসারের হাল ধরতে কাজের সন্ধানে ঢাকা যান ফয়েজ। সেখানে স্যানিটারি মিস্ত্রির (পাইপ ফিটার) কাজ করতেন। ওইদিন সন্ধ্যায় ঢাকার যাত্রাবাড়ী এলাকায় সংঘর্ষের খবর পেয়ে মা সবুরা বেগম তাকে ফোন করেন। ফোনে ফয়েজ বলেন, ‘মা, অনবরত গুলি হচ্ছে। আমি কাজ শেষ করে বের হয়েছি। মা, এখন ফোন রাখো।’ এরপর বিকট শব্দ শুনতে পান তিনি। তারপর সব স্তব্ধ। ছেলের আর কোনো কথা শোনা যায়নি। ফয়েজের বাবা আলাউদ্দিন বলেন, ‘দুটি গুলি আমার ছেলেটাকে শেষ করে দিল! ছেলে হত্যার বিচার চাই। কিন্তু কার কাছে চাইব? আমি চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে চাকরি করতাম। সেনা সরকারের সময় এক আন্দোলনের কারণে চাকরি হারাই। এবার আরেক আন্দোলনে ছেলেকে হারালাম। আল্লাহর কাছে বিচার চাই।’ তিনি আরও জানান, ফয়েজ শহীদ হওয়ার পর কিছু সরকারি ও বেসরকারি সহযোগিতা পেয়েছেন। তবে সরকার যেন ফয়েজের স্ত্রী ও সন্তানের পাশে দাঁড়ায়, সেটাই এখন তার চাওয়া। স্বামী শহীদ হওয়ার পর ফয়েজ আহমেদের স্ত্রী নুর নাহার ও ১৮ মাস বয়সী ছেলে রাফি মাহমুদ ঠাঁই নিয়েছেন গাজীপুরের টঙ্গীর এক আত্মীয়ের বাসায়। মোবাইল ফোনে কথা হলে কান্নাজড়িত কণ্ঠে নুর নাহার বলেন, ‘স্বামী আমার সবকিছু ছিল। তাকে গুলি করে মারল। কোন দোষে? কে দেবে এই প্রশ্নের জবাব? কার কাছে চাইব এই হত্যার বিচার?’ তিনি জড়িতদের গ্রেফতার করে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবি জানান। গুলিবিদ্ধ ফয়েজ আহমদকে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যান তার পরিচিত স্যানিটারি ঠিকাদার মো. কাশেম। মোবাইল ফোনে কথা হলে তিনি জানান, অ্যাম্বুলেন্স ভাড়া করে ফয়েজকে স্থানীয় একটি হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যান। পরে সেখান থেকে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হলে চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। ফয়েজ মাথা ও ঘাড়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হন। ময়নাতদন্ত শেষে তার মরদেহ অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে রায়পুরের ঝাউডগী গ্রামের বাড়িতে নিয়ে দাফন করা হয়। মো. কাশেম আরও জানান, ফয়েজ দুই বছর ধরে তার সঙ্গে কাজ করছিলেন। দিনে ৭০০ টাকা মজুরি পেতেন। সামান্য এই আয়ে স্ত্রী ও সন্তান নিয়ে সাইনবোর্ড এলাকায় ভাড়া বাসায় থাকতেন। ২১ জুলাই বিকেল সাড়ে পাঁচটায় সাইনবোর্ড এলাকার একটি ভবনে কাজ শেষ করে বাসায় ফেরার পথে তিনি গুলিবিদ্ধ হন। রায়পুর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা মো. নিজাম উদ্দিন পাটওয়ারী বলেন, ‘শহীদ ফয়েজ আহমেদকে ঝাউডগী এলাকায় পারিবারিক কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হয়েছে। তার স্ত্রী ও সন্তান এখন টঙ্গীতে রয়েছেন। প্রশাসন সব সময় তাদের পাশে রয়েছে। হত্যাকারীদের বিচার হবে।’ বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার উপদেষ্টা পরিষদের সদস্য ও লক্ষ্মীপুর-২ আসনের সাবেক এমপি আবুল খায়ের ভূঁইয়া বলেন, ‘স্বৈরাচারী সরকারের পতনের লড়াইয়ে শহীদ ফয়েজ আহমেদসহ যারা জীবন দিয়েছেন, বিএনপি তাদের পাশে আছে। ইতোমধ্যে শহীদও আহতদের পরিবারের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছে দল, ভবিষ্যতেও তা অব্যাহত থাকবে।’

"Mother, there's continuous shooting, I'll talk to you later." But that 'later' never came for Foyez Ahmed, 31, a resident of Raipur. On July 21, 2024, his mother, Sabura Begum, called him in the evening to inquire about his whereabouts. Foyez told his mother that he was fine and was on his way home after finishing work, adding that there was intense shooting going on. He assured her, "I'll talk to you when I get home." But he never returned. At the residence of martyr Foyez Ahmed in the Jhauwdgi area of North Char Ababil Union in Raipur Upazila, Laxmipur, the family members were found silent in grief. Foyez was the eldest of three children, and he was the only breadwinner in the family. His mother, Sabura Begum, was crying uncontrollably, thinking about who would take care of Foyez's wife and children now. Foyez had left for Dhaka about 12 years ago in search of work and was employed as a sanitary worker (pipe fitter). On the day of the incident, his mother called him in the evening after hearing about the clashes in the Jatrabari area. Foyez told her that he was fine and was on his way home after finishing work, but there was intense shooting going on. He asked her to hang up the phone, and then she heard loud noises, followed by silence. Foyez's father, Alauddin, said that two bullets had killed his son, and he demanded justice for his son's murder. Foyez's wife, Nur Nahar, and their 18-month-old son, Rafi Mahmud, have taken shelter at a relative's house in Tongi, Gazipur. Over the phone, Nur Nahar said that her husband was everything to her, and she asked who would give her the answer to why he was killed. She demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for her husband's murder. Foyez was shot and taken to the hospital by his acquaintance, sanitary contractor MD Kashem. Kashem said that Foyez was shot in the head and neck and was declared dead by the doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His body was later taken to his village home in Jhauwdgi, Raipur, and buried. Kashem added that Foyez had been working with him for two years, earning a daily wage of 700 taka, and was living in a rented house in the Signboard area with his wife and child. On the day of the incident, Foyez was shot while on his way home after finishing work at a building in the Signboard area. The officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station, Md. Nizam Uddin Patwari, said that Foyez was buried in the family graveyard in Jhauwdgi. His wife and child are currently living in Tongi, and the administration is always with them. The killers will be brought to justice. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's advisory council member and former MP for Laxmipur-2, Abu Khair Bhuiyan, said that the BNP is with the families of those who have lost their lives, including Foyez Ahmed, in the fight against the authoritarian government. The party has already stood by the families of the martyrs and the injured and will continue to do so in the future.
