'এসএসসি (দাখিল) পরীক্ষার পর ছেলেকে বলেছিলাম ব্যবসা করতে। কিন্তু ছেলে বলল, একটু পড়াশোনা করে দেখি। চলমান উচ্চ মাধ্যমিকের (এইচএসএসি) পাঁচটি পরীক্ষাও দিয়েছিল। কিন্তু এরমধ্যেই ছেলে ফিরল লাশ হয়ে।'

কথাগুলো বলছিলেন গত ১৮ জুলাই চট্টগ্রাম নগরীর বহাদ্দারহাটে কোটা সংস্কার আন্দোলনকারীদের সঙ্গে পুলিশ ও ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগের সংঘর্ষে নিহত তানভীর আহমেদের (১৯) বাবা বাদশা মিয়া।

মুঠোফোনে দ্য বিজনেস স্ট্যান্ডার্ডের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে গিয়ে বাদশা জানান, তার ছেলের মাথা ও পিঠে ছিল গুলির চিহ্ন।

কক্সবাজারের মহেশখালী উপজেলার কালামাছছড়া ইউনিয়নের বাসিন্দা বাদশা মিয়া ও সানোয়ারা বেগমের তিন ছেলের মধ্যে তানভীর ছিলেন সবার বড়।

তানভীরের বাবা বাদশা মিয়া মহেশখালীর চাষিদের কাছ থেকে পান কিনে দক্ষিণ চট্টগ্রামের চন্দনাইশ এলাকায় পান বিক্রি করেন।

বাদশা বলেন, 'আমি গরিব মানুষ। সব সন্তানকে লেখাপড়া করানো সম্ভব নয়। এজন্য তানভীরকে বলেছিলাম পড়াশোনা বাদ দিয়ে ব্যবসা শুরু করতে। কিন্তু ছেলে বলল পড়বে।'

তাই স্থানীয় ক্ষুদ্র ঋণ প্রদানকারী সংস্থা থেকে ৫০ হাজার টাকা ঋণ করে ছেলেকে চট্টগ্রামের সরকারি আশেকানে আউলিয়া ডিগ্রি কলেজে শহরে ভর্তি করেন বাদশা।

The words were spoken by Badsha Mia, the father of 19-year-old Tanveer Ahmed, who was killed in a clash between police and Chhatra League-Jubo League on July 18 in Bahaddarhat, Chittagong city, during a quota reform movement.

Talking to The Business Standard over the phone, Badsha said that his son had bullet marks on his head and back.

Badsha Mia and Sanowara Begum, residents of Kalachhara Union in Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox's Bazar, had three sons, among whom Tanveer was the eldest.

Badsha Mia buys betel leaves from farmers in Maheshkhali and sells them in the Chandnaish area of southern Chittagong.

Badsha said, "I am a poor man. It is not possible for me to educate all my children. That's why I told Tanveer to stop studying and start a business. But my son said he would study."

So, Badsha took a loan of 50,000 taka from a local microfinance organization and enrolled his son in the government-run Ashikan Aulia Degree College in Chittagong city.
