মো. জুলফিকার আহমেদ, ডাক নাম শাকিল। বয়স ২৩ বছর। ঢাকায় কোটা আন্দোলনে অংশ নেন। পুলিশের ছোড়া বুলেটে প্রথমে আহত হন এবং পরে শহীদ হন। শাকিল ভোলা সদর উপজেলার ভেলুমিয়া ৩নং ওয়ার্ডের মৃত মো. ছিদ্দিক মৃধার বড় ছেলে। তিনি ঢাকার ধানমন্ডি এলাকার ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ ডেভেলপমেন্ট অল্টারনেটিভে চারুকলা বিভাগের দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী ছিলেন। একই সাথে বাংলাদেশ ছাত্র ফেডারেশনের ঢাকা মহানগরের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক ছিলেন। গত ৪ আগস্ট ঢাকার মিরপুর-১০ নম্বরে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে আহত হলে সাথের বন্ধুরা তাকে প্রথমে কুর্মিটোলা হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যায়। পরে সেখান থেকে তাকে আগারগাঁও নিউরোসায়েন্স হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়। সেখানে তিনদিন তিনি চিকিৎসাধীন ছিলেন। পরে ৭ আগস্ট বিকেল ৩টার দিকে মারা যান শাকিল। পরের দিন ৮ আগস্ট বৃহস্পতিবার রাত সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে ভোলা সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয় মাঠে জানাজা শেষে ভেলুমিয়া গ্রামের বাগমারা রাঢ়ী বাড়ির দরজার জামে মসজিদের পাশে তাকে দাফন করা হয়। এ সময় বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের নেতা-কর্মীরা তার কবরে ফুল দিয়ে শ্রদ্ধা জানান। শহীদ জুলফিকার আহমেদ শাকিলের গ্রামের বাড়িতে গেলে তার মা বিবি আয়েশা জানান, কয়েক বছর আগে জুলফিকারের বাবা মারা যাওয়ার পর তাদের সংগ্রামী জীবন শুরু হয়। ছোটবেলা থেকে তিনি অন্যের বাসায় কাজ করে ছেলের পড়ালেখার খরচ চালিয়ে গেছেন। ছেলে যখন বুঝতে শেখে, তখন টিউশনি করে নিজের পড়ার খরচ জোগাড় করার পাশাপাশি সেই আয় থেকে নিজেদের বাসাভাড়াও দিতো। বাবাহারা ছেলেটা চেয়েছিলো নিজে কষ্ট করে বড় হয়ে পরিবারের মুখে হাসি ফোটাতে। সেটি আর হয়ে ওঠেনি। ঢাকায় উত্তাল আগস্টে ঘাতক বুলেটের আঘাতে তার জীবন প্রদীপ নিভে গেছে। তিনি যে সংগঠনের সাথে জড়িত ছিলেন, সেটি পরিবারও জানতো না। মারা যাওয়ার পর জানতে পারে। তিনি যে ছাত্র ফেডারেশন করতেন, তার সাথের ছাত্ররাই তাকে বাড়িতে আনা ও দাফনের ব্যবস্থা করে। বিবি আয়েশা আরো জানান, ঢাকায় অন্যের বাসায় কাজ করে দুই মেয়েকে বিয়ে দিয়েছেন। ছোট ছেলে মো. সুমন ও বড় ছেলে শাকিলকে নিয়ে মিরপুর-১২ নম্বরের ডি-ব্লকে একটি বাসায় ভাড়া থাকতেন। ছোট ছেলে পঞ্চম শ্রেণি পর্যন্ত পড়ালেখা করে আর এগোয়নি। তাই শাকিল তাকে একটি কারখানায় কাজে দিয়েছেন। নিজে কষ্ট করে পড়ালেখা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। গত মাসে আগের বাসাটি ছেড়ে দিয়েছেন। তাই এ মাসে নতুন বাসা দেখার কথা ছিলো। গত ৪ আগস্ট দুপুরের দিকে বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যাওয়ার সময় মা বিবি আয়েশা বলেছিলেন, "বাবা, আন্দোলনে যাওয়ার দরকার নাই। বাইরে ঝামেলা চলছে।" তখন ছেলে বলেছিলো, "মা, আমার প্রতি তোমার আস্থা নাই? আমি বাসা দেখতে যাচ্ছি।" এরপর দুপুর দেড়টার দিকে তার সাথের বন্ধুরা খবর নিয়ে আসে যে শাকিল এক্সিডেন্ট করেছে। তাকে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়েছে। পরিবারের কেউ না গেলে তাকে ভর্তি করা হবে না। এ খবর শুনে মা বিবি আয়েশা হাসপাতালে যান। গিয়ে দেখেন তার ছেলে অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়ে আছে। চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন, তার মাথায় দুটি গুলি লেগেছে। একটি বের হয়ে গেলেও অপরটি ভেতরে রয়ে গেছে। এ অবস্থায় তার আর জ্ঞান ফেরেনি। ওইদিন বিকেল ৩টার দিকে চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় মারা যান শাকিল।

গত ৪ আগস্ট মিরপুর-১০ নম্বরে ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগের সন্ত্রাসীদের ছোড়া দুটি গুলি শাকিলের মাথায় বিদ্ধ হয়।

Md. Zulfiqar Ahmed, nicknamed Shakil, was 23 years old. He participated in the quota reform movement in Dhaka. He was first injured by a bullet fired by the police and later martyred. Shakil was the eldest son of the late Md. Siddiq Mridha from Ward No. 3 of Velumia, Bhola Sadar Upazila. He was a second-year student in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Development Alternative (UODA) in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. He was also the Organizational Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the Bangladesh Student Federation. On August 4, he was shot at Mirpur-10 in Dhaka. His friends took him to Kurmitola Hospital and later transferred him to the Neuroscience Hospital in Agargaon. He was under treatment there for three days. On August 7, at 3 PM, he passed away. The next day, on the night of August 8, at 10:30 PM, he was buried beside the Jam-e Mosque near Bagmara Rarhi Bari in Velumia, after his funeral at Bhola Government High School field. At his grave, leaders and activists from various organizations paid their respects with flowers. When visiting the home of the martyred Zulfiqar Ahmed Shakil, his mother, Bibi Ayesha, stated that their struggle began after Zulfiqar’s father passed away years ago. From a young age, she worked in others' homes to support her son's education. As he grew older, Shakil started tutoring to cover his own education expenses and even contributed to their rent. The fatherless boy had hoped to work hard and bring happiness to his family. But that dream was never fulfilled. His life was extinguished by a brutal bullet in the turbulent August of Dhaka. Even his family was unaware of his involvement with the organization he was part of. They only found out after his death. His fellow students from the Student Federation arranged for his return home and burial. Bibi Ayesha also shared that she had married off her two daughters while working as a domestic worker in Dhaka. She lived in a rented house in D-Block, Mirpur-12, with her younger son, Md. Suman, and elder son, Shakil. The younger son had only studied up to fifth grade and had stopped schooling, so Shakil had arranged a job for him in a factory while continuing his own studies despite hardships. They had vacated their previous residence last month, and this month, they were supposed to look for a new house. On August 4, before leaving home, his mother, Bibi Ayesha, warned him, "Son, there’s trouble outside. Don’t go to the protest." Shakil replied, "Mom, don’t you trust me? I’m just going to look for a house." At around 1:30 PM, his friends brought the news that Shakil had met with an accident and was taken to the hospital. Without family presence, the hospital refused to admit him. Hearing this, his mother rushed to the hospital, only to find her son unconscious. Doctors confirmed that he had been shot twice in the head. One bullet exited, but the other remained lodged inside. He never regained consciousness and passed away at 3 PM that day.
Cause
On August 4, at Mirpur-10, two bullets fired by BCL-Jubo League terrorists hit Shakil in the head.
